Malacca Expatriate School

Malacca Expatriate School is a co-educational, international school. Established in 1980, MES provides a British International Curriculum to the expatriate and local community in Melaka, Malaysia. The academic year runs from the beginning of September until the end of July.

MES is a Cambridge International Examinations Centre and follows the Cambridge curriculum at both primary and secondary level. Each student’s performance is assessed by end of term tests internally and by Cambridge Checkpoint Assessment at the end of Year 6 and the end of Year 9 as external assessment. In Year 10, students begin a two year course of study leading to International General Certificate of Secondary Examination (IGCSE) assessment at the end of Year 11.

Students who obtain IGCSE qualifications are well prepared for further academic studies in Malaysia or internationally. They may progress to study AS and A Level or the International Baccalaureate Diploma leading to higher education at university. They are also equipped with the skills needed for immediate employment.

It’s a great place with good teachers. But the students are very noisy and pathetic. If the school community is reading this then please change this situation as I am trying to send my son to the school. It would be much appreciated

The school could be good if you are the type of parents who don't require too much in terms of academic. They offer british curriculum with singapore maths.

Campus Facilities :

The school operates from an old bungalow. It converted bedrooms into classrooms. So one can imagine how small the class size is. The school cannot accommodate more than 12 children in any 1 classroom. This means for the primary and secondary schools one can expect no more than 12 students in either Year 1,2,3 etc.

Extra Curicullar Activities :

The school decides which actiivity to run at the beginning of the trimester and the students have to attend regardless their interest. For example, if the school selects badminton for Sports, then for the entire trimester, the kids have to be shuttled to the nearby club at the parents expense. However, there is not much depth in the activities. Merely to fulfill the simple purpose of having ECA.

Its grounds are limited. There are no proper courts nor a good sized field for outdoor activities. Currently school is renting courts from malacca club and futsal for badminton and tchoukball activities which are about 5 mins drive from school. Parents are required to arrange own transport to get their child/children there. It's pretty uneasy for families who stay far from school as parents need to drive their children there and waited till end. Parents have to car pool to send their kids to the club. This is inconvenient generally. Anyway, due to the small numbers, they can't choose to have several activities to be involved in a week.
